Ready to Be Your Best Self? Stop Believing Your Limiting Thoughts!

Okay, ladies. I’m going to tell it to you straight:

What’s the most powerful way you can change your life? Change your mind.
And what’s the first thing you can do to change your mind? Stop believing your limiting thoughts!

Those voices in your head that tell you you’re not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, or rich enough? They aren’t real.

Those parts of you that collect evidence that you’re a loser or a failure, that you won’t be okay unless you lose weight, that to be “successful” you have to make a million dollars? Nope, they aren’t real, either!

They are just thoughts. They exist in your head alone, in your personal internal world.

And if your thoughts are limiting, and cruel, and harsh, they keep you trapped in a life where you feel afraid, stuck, disillusioned, and disconnected from your community, yourself, and your purpose.

Yes, it is easy to get lost in your thoughts and believe them to be true. After all, your inner voices are always with you! They are the first thing you encounter when you wake in the morning. They travel with you throughout your daily tasks and activities. No matter what else is happening, they are always there to keep you company.

But there is so much operating beyond what’s in your head.
Whenever you get bogged down in your limited beliefs, here are a few ideas of things to do to shake out of your narrow-minded way of viewing the world:

1) Make Time For Yourself

There’s no way to unpack and release those stale, pesky thought patterns if you don’t ever make time to explore them! And believe it or not, the old adage is true: “The best way out is through.” In order to really let go of the thoughts that are keeping you trapped in an old version of yourself, you have to allow them to be seen and heard. And this requires time and space. So, allocate times on your schedule for “personal mindset shifting.” Meditate or journal on the voices inside that are making you feel shame or guilt, and then let yourself really feel them, rather than immediately trying to fix them. Fixing is just another version of suppressing.

2) Gain Perspective

One of the most powerful things you can do to get out of your head is to “zoom out.” Have you ever been in the midst of heartbreak, or embarrassment, or a crisis at home or at work, and felt like that was the biggest deal ever? Yeah, me too. It is so easy to fall deep into limiting beliefs, and feel like your current situation is all that exists–especially if it’s painful. And always, without fail, those events fade. So take a deep breath, and remember that there’s a gigantic world around you, filled with incredible people and experiences and opportunities!

3) Keep Your Heart Open

This one can feel very hard. The world we currently live in often feels challenging and intense, rife with conflict and discord. Heck, even social media has become a battleground for people to aggressively shout their opinions, and use their words for cruelty and antagonism! That said, alongside all of this discord, there are always sources of harmony and hope. There are artists creating incredible artwork, writers writing gorgeous poetry and prose, musicians making stunning music, activists on transformative missions for social justice. There are even people using Facebook to share joy, rather than anger! Seek these experiences out, and once you’ve found them, let yourself feel them with your whole heart. Let your heart remember how good it feels to be open to the beauty and the love around you.
